news coverage starts right now. this is ktvu channel 2 news at noon. >> an early morning fire at the landmark restaurant in berkeley. what the owner and founder of the restaurant told us and what firefighters are saying about a possible cause. >> good afternoon i am tori campbell. we just got you information on that story ktvu has been following all morning after a fire at the berkeley restaurant, owner and founder alice waters tweeted the cafe may re-open next weekend and we are now getting word the fire started near some electrical equipment under the building. the iconic restaurant is located at shattuck avenue and we talked with her. >> reporter: she went into her restaurant to take a look at at the damage and emerged shaken. >> it has a lot of emotional -- just sadness. >> that emotion came in part because walking through the damage today was like walking back in time, back to march of 1982, when a fire damaged the restaurant. the improvements made since likely saved the entire building today. firefighters say the fire started underneath the building in the subfloor area.

on a story that was breaking at the end of "mornings on 2." ktvu's tara moriarty is live on 8th avenue near morago with some pictures that show how marijuana may have had a role in this fire. >> reporter: well, the good news, the firefighter is okay. he suffered a possible dislocated shoulder. his own crews transported him to ucsf, but behind me is the house where you can see he fell inside there and crews stumbled upon something else inside. heavy smoke billowed from the roof of this home on 8th avenue near noriega street. >> it was an interior attack, offensive attack. we went right in and directed our hoses in the fire. it's a bit windy. the homes are all attached and wood frame. >> reporter: we watched one firefighter being let out on a gurney. he slipped on stairs. it's what the crews found upstairs that caused them to call police. >> i guess in the neighborhood, you know, smelling something different. don't know particularly the smell but definitely something different. >> reporter: firefighters say at least 100 marijuana plants were inside, an elaborate- growing operation an all thre

attended today's memorial here inside hp pavilion. robert handa, ktvu. >>> there were many moving images from today's memorial. but perhaps none more poignant than officer baker's son joaquin wearing her police cap. >> reporter: the gray skies and light rain seem only fitting tonight. in a sign the community is moving on. the flags here at hp pavilion have been raised after an emotional goodbye. it was quite a sight to see hundreds of law enforcement lining up in front of hp pavilion in san jose. but then in unison each saluted the departing caskets under a waving american flag. after musicians on top of a fire truck played taps, seven helicopter flew over the crowd in a missing man formation. lines of officers marched into the service they wish never had to happen. >> this is such a tragedy, the fall out from this, the implications are yet to be realized. >> reporter: on the sidewalk a single salute greeted a procession of arriving santa cruz police officers. of the thousands in attendance a husband and wife who used to work with santa cruz police along with their twin daughters. >> the

area news coverage starts right now. this is ktvu mornings on 2. >> good morning, welcome to mornings on 2. >> it is tuesday march 5th. we have been following developing news of that stranded yacht we first told you about yesterday morning. after a slow journey the boat arrived just about an hour ago? alex savage is there where the yacht has been hoisted out of the water. >> reporter: good morning to you. the luxury yacht darling ran aground yesterday and took a four hour trip across the bay and wound up here at this richmond boat yard whereas you can see it is this morning on dry land. crews pulled it out of the water a short time ago. want to show you video we just shot. we were allowed inside the yard and got an up close look at some of the damage that was done yesterday. a portion of the rutter has been broken off and the propeller on the under side of the vessel also appears to be bent. i'm also told the engine may have issues as well. the tug boat freed the darling before 1:00 this morning after it ran aground yesterday in 4 feet of water. police say the three people who were on

latest details on the home invasion suspects. we're live here in san francisco. ktvu channel 2 news. >> one person is dead after being hit by a car while trying to run across highway 237 at san jose. it happened about 8:30 last night. the driver of the car stopped immediately after the accident and called police. the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. eastbound lane of the highway were closed for about three hours. >>> time is now 6:05. just about an hour from right now, people living at a homeless encampment in san jose will be forced to leave for good. she is there live at the encampment now and you're talking to people affected by this clean up. >> dave, it's cold, it's muddy. it's wet and a lot of these people don't know where they're going to go. i spoke to the people that live in this tent. as you can see right now that man is packing up his things and he says he's going to leave before the clean up crews get here but there's still plenty of other people that have their tents and we haven't seen anybody else packing up and moving. there's plenty of people here still hold

:06. a man shot and killed in the campbell. it happened on dumpster drive and west halt her avenue. ktvu's alex savage is there live. >> reporter: a car seen speeding way from the area but not sure if this was a drive by or the shooter walked right up the victim. the young man was shot right here on this street. and it's next to the campbell community center. now this morning police are trying to solve the city's first killing in five years. it was about 10:30 last night. but officers came to the intersection they found and 18- year-old man on the ground with at least one gunshot bound he was transported to medical center for emergency surgery. but in the end he did not survive. police have identified the victim as richard vaga from campbell. a sergeant told us it's too early to say what the motive might have been. >> we don't know exactly what happened. we don't have any information that there was a verbal confrontation. but we're looking into all the different possibilities. >> reporter: police say anybodies reported seeing the possible shooter driving off in a dark colored sedan. that

, ktvu channel 2news. >>> las vegas police are looking at new video taken during last week's deadly chase and shooting that ended with three people dead. police obtained the video before 26-year-old ammar harris was arrested in los angeles. investigators say the video taken by taxi dashboard camera shows harris' range rover and a maserati weaving around each other on the vegas strip. harris fired at least five shots into the maserati, killing one man, then slamming into a taxi leading to an explosion that left two others dead. >>> power is expected to be restored in two hours in a lafayette after after being knocked out because of a police chase and crash. the suspect car hit a power pole just before 3:00 a.m. on happy valley road. almost 1800 pg&e customers lost power. most had it restored within hours. police spotted the truck that hit the pole a few minutes before the crash, driving erratically on highway 24. officers say they stopped the truck, but then the driver took off and drove into the neighborhood. the suspect has been identified as 38-year-old mark biancini of san francisco. t
